Since 2015, GUIDE has been committed to exploring, understanding, and elevating the lived experiences of engineers, engineering students, and prospective engineering students from historically oppressed communities.
GUIDE was created by and is led by Dr. Walter C. Lee, Associate Professor of Engineering Education at Virginia Tech. Currently situated in one of the first engineering education doctoral programs, GUIDE’s work helps to create a more inclusively diverse engineering community - locally, nationally, and globally.

Meet Dr. Lee
Dr. Walter C. Lee’s journey to engineering began at Clemson University, where he earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and a Minor in Sociology. After graduating from Clemson, Dr. Lee merged his passion for sociology and engineering to earn his M.S. in Industrial Systems Engineering and his Ph.D. in Engineering Education, both from Virginia Tech.
